Liaison Psychiatry, where Dr Ahmed is specially qualified: this is the term for the psychiatric care required by those who have developed and are at risk of developing mental health problems as a consequence of long term illness, or acute illness. It is the balance of people’s mental health care against their need for physical treatment. The alternative names for this branch of psychiatry are Psychological medicine or Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
Cultural Psychiatry: speaking additional languages of Hindi and Urdu, Dr Ahmed assists many who are afraid of coming forward, publicly, with a mental health problem. Often they present with headaches, limb aches and what can be perceived as physical problems but are often symptomatic of more serious underlying mental health concerns.
